Located in Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is a jewel of India’s wildlife heritage. Known for its high density of Bengal tigers, the reserve is also home to leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, and over 250 species of birds. Its lush forests, meadows, and rocky terrain provide a perfect sanctuary for these magnificent creatures.


Historic Bandhavgarh Fort: A 10th-century fort perched on a hill, blending history with nature.


Bandhavgarh is a model of conservation success under Project Tiger, offering a balance of rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. It’s a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and nature lovers alike.

🐾 Core Zones of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve

  1. Khinauli Zone –
    Khitauli Zone, also known as Gate No. 3, is one of the three core safari zones of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, located in the north-western part of the park.
  2. Magadhi Zone –
    Magadhi Zone is Gate No. 2 of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Number of vehicles permitted: e.g., around 26 in the morning and 25 in the evening for full vehicle bookings
  3. Tala Zone –
    Tala Zone is the oldest and most popular safari zone in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, renowned for its high tiger density and rich biodiversity.

Apart from the above there are other Buffer Zones too

1. Forest Rest House (Tala Gate)

  • Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is located in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh, and is well-connected by air, rail, and road from major cities. The main entry points are Tala Gate, Magadhi Gate, and Khitauli Gate.



✈️ By Air

  • Jabalpur Airport (190 km) – Nearest major airport with flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and other metro cities.
  • Ranchi Airport (230 km) – Alternative airport for eastern India travelers.
  • Nagpur Airport (240 km) – Option for travelers coming from the western or southern India.

From the airport, taxis or pre-arranged transfers are recommended to reach the park.

  • Bandhavgarh is open from October to June and closed during the monsoon (July to mid-October) for safaris. Each season offers unique experiences:


🍃 October – February (Winter Season)

  • Weather: Pleasant and cool (11°C–25°C)


  • Best for: Nature photography, family trips, peaceful safaris


☀️ March – June (Summer Season)

  • Weather: Warm to hot (25°C–42°C)
  • Highlights: Higher chances of tiger sightings as animals gather around water bodies.
  • Best for: Wildlife photographers and serious safari enthusiasts.

  • Book your safari permits at least 120 days in advance through the official MP Forest Department website — slots fill up quickly in peak season.


  • Choose accommodation near the same entry gate to avoid unnecessary travel specially during morning safari

March to May — when vegetation is sparse, and tigers are more easily spotted near water sources.
